FRESHER DOESN’T MEAN ZERO EXPERIENCE; IT SIMPLY MEANS GENERAL EXPERIENCE READY TO BE TRIED IN SPECIFIC SITUATION

In a population of a billion securing a job is nothing less than a rat race which starts even before you graduate, and getting a decent placement is something to brag about these days. As a student of Economics, I will be soon tagged as “The Fresher” from a leading institute in Kolkata, ready to be cherry picked by a company. A tailor made job has become a synonym for wishful thinking, however being a fresher I have the right to have certain expectations from the company I’ll be working with. I’ll have no qualms about the campus results or whether I am selected or not and if I am selected whether it’s a Fortune 500 Corporate or a Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) as far as the selection process is rational and provides a meaningful career with due visibility and acknowledgement of my credentials and recognition of my performance. In totality, I expect a career that celebrates my existence and challenges my capabilities every day.
Hearing this my placement coordinator sighed and said ”you are being too ambitious & demanding; don’t forget you are just a fresher”. While this is a popular belief, I do not accede to it and have a contrary view; for me “Fresher doesn’t mean zero experience; it simply means general experience ready to be tried in specific situation” and that is why any campus recruit is expected to start performing and delivering results the moment they hit the professional ground, applying their theoretical knowledge blended with the life experience they come with.

The placement coordinator has to realize that he is already experienced in business communication & coordination, to some extent he must have exhibited leadership skills too.. similar examples can be cited with reference to class monitors, school heads or for that matter sports coordinators.

The point I am delving upon here is merely that though I haven’t received any remuneration so far but I have been delivering on many aspects which can be paralleled to an employment in corporate parlance. Hence I don’t foresee any reason why I shouldn’t have any expectations from my prospective employer. After all its about my career and has to be a win-win for both!
